Obviously, I missed out..
As a child in the States, no one taught me to paper piece (as apparently all my friends were taught over here), instead we made potholders out of pieces of day-glo tights..
As a result, I am launching myself into the world of hexagons.. I’ve been terribly inspired by opheliaspins monochrome quilts like these two.

I’m definitely not as crazy keen as she is, so I thought I’d stick with 1″ hexagons I could sew on the bus.

I’m making them out of my dad’s old shirts, it’s kind of a nostalgia thing. I get my expensive taste from Dad; we can (and have) spent hours in places like Brooks Brothers, Paul Stewart and other posh gentlemen’s outfitters rummaging through ties and shirts. Occasionally I request a retired shirt or two to wear around the house, find I don’t wear them as often as I wish and think I ought to charity shop them. I never want to, but I think I might have forced myself to get rid of a few I wish I hadn’t now.

So hopefully this is by way of an apology to the God of Slim Fit Shirts in 14 1/2 – 34… I may be some time.

Frozen grapes! Reind me to try that! x
