This is a kimono my dad brought me from Japan. Although I was secretly hoping for a silk brocade number, I can’t stop looking at the beautifully simple design of this one (and it’s handier to wear on the way to the shower).

Is it cotton or silk? If it is cotton it is techincally a Yukata, designed for day wear with a smaller obi – and way more comfortable than a full silk number to be honest
And yes, i am visiting via your other blog, but i do love looking at your crafty stuff
It’s cotton, and has an obi that is about the size I would expect for a dressing gown tie, about 2 inches. The other thing I found odd was that the underarm seams were unsewn for about 6 inches where the sleeve and arm meet. It was good for airflow, but showed a little more of my bosoms than I was really up for, so I sewed it up. I imagine there would usually be another layer under there..
No, no not normally, not with a yukata, it is all the wrapping style that keeps the boobies preserved. The very thin obi like that is a very casual one, very masculine actually although i had seen women wearing them like that too, but very good for trips to the shower and back.
I have various kimono hanging on the wall here at the moment, i just want an excuse to wear them in real life cause i love them so much!
