I think I might finally be getting my head around the change of the seasons.
It struck me as I finished off a punnet of strawberries with one hand and made lekach with the other. All of a sudden I wasn’t mourning the sun, but looking forward to getting the wood stove going again and trying to decide if mukluks are practical winter slippers.
Maybe there’s something in the observance of rituals that helps get you prepared for the next stage of the year. Or maybe licking the bowl just cheered me up…
(But I wouldn’t say no to another weekend of sunshine.)

Licking the bowl is very cheering, as is finally being able to look forward to the next season. Hope the cake turned out well!
I’m pretty sure licking the bowl can solve most of the world’s problems.
The lekach sounds yummy! I must try to make it some time.
I agree. Rituals help me to move on to the next season especially spring and fall cleaning.
Great post Katy. It is so very true though observance of rituals helps us to remember and prepare. You also made me realize too how much I observe cakes before they disappear in my all to regular ritual of consumption….:)
My mantra is that cakes mixed by hand are positively good for you!
I adore your beautiful pictures of the kitchen and the art of making tasty delights. Licking the bowl is one of the best things in life, hands down. Now if we can all remember to do that more often, I think we’ll be in good shape. Great post!
